Terms of Service
Last updated: 1 May 2026 · Effective from: 1 June 2026
1. Who we are
A Seat at the Table ("ASATT", "we", "us", "our") is a marketplace platform connecting hosts who create private and public dining experiences with guests who book seats at them. The platform is operated by A-kurator AS, registered in Norway under organisation number 932 744 147, Oslo.
By creating an account or making a booking you agree to these terms in full. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that all information you provide is accurate and that you have the legal capacity to enter into a binding agreement. ASATT reserves the right to verify identity and to refuse, suspend, or terminate accounts at its discretion.
3. The platform
ASATT provides technology that connects hosts and guests. We are not a party to the agreement between host and guest, nor are we a restaurant, catering company, or food business. We review and approve all events before they go live, but this review does not constitute a guarantee of safety, quality, food standards compliance, or legal compliance on the part of the host.
All events are subject to ASATT approval. We may decline to publish or remove any event at any time without obligation to explain our decision.
4. Bookings and payments
When you book a seat, payment is processed immediately via Stripe or Vipps. Funds are held securely by our payment provider and transferred to the host after the event has taken place.
ASATT retains a 13% platform commission on every booking, deducted from the host payout. Guests pay no booking fee. Prices are shown in Norwegian kroner (NOK) and are inclusive of any applicable VAT.
A booking is confirmed only when payment has been successfully processed and you have received a booking confirmation in the app. The host's precise address is revealed only at this point.
5. Cancellation and refunds
Guest cancellations:
- More than 48 hours before the event: full refund
- 24–48 hours before the event: 50% refund
- Less than 24 hours before the event: no refund
Host cancellations: If a host cancels for any reason, all confirmed guests receive a full automatic refund. Repeat cancellations by hosts will result in account restrictions.
Refunds are processed via the original payment method and typically appear within 3–5 business days, depending on your bank. ASATT does not charge fees for cancellations within the above policy.
In cases of documented extraordinary circumstances (force majeure, serious illness), ASATT may exercise discretion to offer full refunds outside these terms. Contact us at hello@aseat-thetable.com.
6. Host responsibilities
Hosts are solely responsible for:
- The accuracy of their listings, including accurate allergen and dietary information
- Compliance with applicable Norwegian food safety law, including Mattrygghetsforordningen and any requirements under Mattilsynet
- Obtaining any necessary permits or approvals for serving food commercially from their premises
- Maintaining appropriate hygiene standards
- Informing guests of house rules and any relevant safety information
- Ensuring their home insurance covers events of this nature if hosting privately
By listing an event, hosts confirm they have read and understood these responsibilities. Hosts indemnify ASATT against any claim arising from failure to meet them.
7. Guest responsibilities
Guests agree to:
- Arrive with reasonable punctuality (or notify the host if delayed)
- Treat hosts, other guests, and host property with respect
- Comply with the host's stated house rules
- Not share the host's private address with anyone outside the confirmed guest list
- Not record hosts, other guests, or the premises without express consent
Breach of these responsibilities may result in account termination and, where appropriate, reporting to the relevant authorities.
8. Address privacy
For events held in private homes, the precise address is sensitive personal data and is treated as such under GDPR. It is revealed exclusively to guests with a confirmed, paid booking for that specific event, and only via the ASATT app.
Sharing a host's private address publicly, on social media, or with any person not on the confirmed guest list is a serious breach of these terms and will result in immediate, permanent account termination. ASATT reserves the right to take further legal action where appropriate.
9. Reviews and content
Reviews must be honest, first-hand, and based on genuine personal experience. ASATT may remove reviews that contain false information, offensive or discriminatory language, personal attacks, or content that violates these terms.
Hosts may not offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempting to manipulate the review system will result in account termination.
By uploading photos, descriptions, or other content, you confirm you own it or have the right to use it, and you grant ASATT a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to display it on the platform for as long as your account is active. You retain ownership.
10. Prohibited conduct
You may not use ASATT:
- For commercial resale or arbitrage of bookings
- To collect data on other users for any purpose outside the platform
- To send unsolicited messages or spam
- To impersonate another person or create a false identity
- For any purpose that is unlawful under Norwegian or EU law
- To harass, discriminate against, or abuse other users on any basis including race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, or disability
Violations will result in immediate account termination and may be reported to Norwegian authorities, including Politiet, where appropriate.
11. Limitation of liability
ASATT acts as an intermediary marketplace and is not a party to the agreement between host and guest. To the fullest extent permitted by Norwegian law, ASATT is not liable for:
- Personal injury, illness, food allergic reactions, or other harm arising from attendance at an event
- Property damage occurring at an event
- The accuracy or completeness of host listings
- Loss of enjoyment, inconvenience, or consequential loss
- Events outside our reasonable control (force majeure)
Our total liability to any user in connection with any single booking shall not exceed the amount paid for that booking. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded under mandatory provisions of Norwegian consumer law (Forbrukerkjøpsloven, Markedsføringsloven).
12. Suspension and termination
ASATT may suspend or permanently terminate any account, with or without notice, for breach of these terms, for behaviour that harms other users or the platform, or for any reason we determine in our sole discretion to be appropriate. On termination, any pending bookings will be handled in accordance with our cancellation policy.
You may delete your account at any time via Profile → Settings → Delete account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. Confirmed upcoming bookings must be cancelled separately before deletion.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time to reflect changes to the platform, applicable law, or business practices. We will notify you of material changes by in-app notification and email at least 30 days before they take effect. Continued use of the platform after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If you do not accept, you must stop using the platform and may delete your account.
14. Tax and reporting
Hosting on ASATT may generate taxable income under Norwegian law. Each host is solely responsible for declaring that income on their own tax return and, where applicable, registering a business (ENK or AS). In Norway, individuals may earn income up to a certain threshold before business registration is required — hosts are responsible for monitoring this themselves. ASATT does not provide tax advice and accepts no liability for a host's failure to comply with applicable tax law. For guidance: skatteetaten.no.
Platform reporting: ASATT may be required to report host earnings to Skatteetaten in accordance with applicable Norwegian law. This does not replace each host's own obligation to declare income on their personal or business tax return.
15. Governing law and dispute resolution
These terms are governed by Norwegian law. In the event of a dispute, we encourage you to contact us first at hello@aseat-thetable.com — most issues can be resolved quickly and informally.
If a dispute cannot be resolved directly, it shall be brought before Oslo tingrett as the agreed venue. Consumers also have the right to contact Forbrukertilsynet (forbrukertilsynet.no) or use the EU Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/odr.
